When the Local Organising Committee of the Tertiary Education Management Conference (TEMC) put out a call for interns for their 2018 event, Curtin Health Innovation Research Institute (CHIRI) Research Facilities Manager jumped at the chance to take part.
The TEMC is the annual conference for the Association for Tertiary Education Management and the Tertiary Education Facilities Management Association. The conference brings together tertiary education management from Australia and New Zealand with some delegates from Asia and representatives of partner organisations in the UK, America and South Africa, with an attendance of around 800 people.
Topics are diverse and look at university systems, building and laboratory design and more sustainable campuses, amongst others.
The intern program is a competitive process and aims to give future university managers exposure to the conference and venue and event management as well as public relations.
This was the first time since 2006 the event had been held in Perth. The theme of this year’s conference was ‘A World of Opportunity’, with attendees encouraged to consider how the higher education sector can become more innovative and by taking opportunities for greater diversity, inclusion, sustainability and technology, can continue to transform into the future.
As a manager of research facilities at a university-based institute, the conference was of particular interest to Rob who is now considering how such opportunities may apply to CHIRI.
As you can see from the photo below, Rob really got into the spirit of the event. He is pictured below at the event’s gala dinner, which was held at Crown Perth upon the conclusion of the two-day conference.
Thanks for sharing Rob!
