Congratulations to Curtin University PhD student Jessica Murray, who has been awarded a prestigious Forrest Research Foundation Scholarship and chosen to use it to undertake important melanoma research with us at CHIRI.

Jessica, who last year completed her Honours under the supervision of CHIRI cancer and immunology researchers Dr Danielle Dye and Professor Deirdre Coombe, will again join the team, exploring the underlying molecular interactions involved in an alternative form of melanoma spreading in the body.

“I am honoured to receive this Scholarship from the Forrest Foundation and look forward to working with researchers from CHIRI,” Jessica said.

Danielle said, “Jess thoroughly deserves the Forrest PhD Scholarship. We are so pleased for her and are looking forward to working with her throughout her PhD.”

Jessica’s research has potential to better inform and improve patient prognosis of metastatic melanoma and potentially identify more effective targets for anticancer therapy.

Current prognosis for the disease is poor due low response rates to current therapies, severe side effects and acquired resistance.

Read more about Jessica’s research, and how she hopes to find a piece of the complex cancer biology puzzle to improve the outlook for melanoma patients, here.
