Reading Lists: information for semester two

By Curtin Library 21 July 2020 News & events Teaching and Learning Comments Off on Reading Lists: information for semester two

With the commencement of semester two, teaching staff are reminded to arrange access to unit readings through the Library’s Reading List system.

The Course Quality Manual states that all units must have a list except where limited by legislative requirements or the external environment in which the unit is offered. In particular, all learning resources copied under the University’s Statutory Licence must be recorded in the Reading List system.

Your next steps

Teaching staff who wish to create new Reading Lists or need to roll-over existing Reading Lists should do so now.

Staff should also check that their lists are associated with the correct Blackboard units and that the lists are published before the study period commences.

Staff should use Reading Lists to notify the Library of their unit’s prescribed essential learning resources. Check the “prescribed learning resource for this unit (visible to library staff only)” box in the add tags form to do this.

New Reading List features

Guided tours

Click the “question mark” in the right hand corner of the top pane on the Reading List user interface to activate step-by-step guided tours that will show teaching staff how to:

  • Add an item based on a library resource
  • Add a file to an citation
  • Tag citations
  • Add a public note to an citation
  • Managing an item’s due date

Acquisition of Print books

Please note that Curtin Library is an e-preferred library. This means that we will buy books in an electronic format where it is available. Unless the item is a prescribed learning resources (and tagged accordingly) or no electronic format is available, resources will no longer be purchased in print format. Please see Curtin University Library Textbook Guidelines for more information.
