Curtin hosts Lao PDR disability leaders

Curtin welcomed 15 disability leaders from Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) to Bentley campus last Monday as part of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Australia Awards Fellowship (AAF) program. The Hon Nick Goiran MLC, attended on behalf of the State Minister for Disability Services, Donna Faragher.

The Fellows include Lao Government Ministry representatives from the portfolios of Labour and Social Welfare; Health; and Education and Sports, along with delegates from disability organisations, service providers and advocacy agencies.  During their four-week stay in Perth, the Fellows will undertake activities aimed at fostering a collaborative approach to improving access to social and economic services for people with disabilities in Lao PDR.

This is a very worthy program and I congratulate the staff from the School of Occupational Therapy and Social Work who have been involved. I will look forward to hearing about the outcomes of the program as it develops.

To mark Remembrance Day, Curtin’s Park’d team will send care packages to Australian troops. Please visit Staff News for more information on how you can get involved.
