Curriculum Management System (Akari) Go Live

Tomorrow, Tuesday 15 November, the University will launch a new Curriculum Management System, called Akari. Delivered under the Digital Futures program, this is a significant development for Curtin that will provide a single source of study package information for academics and professional staff.  This achievement is due to a collaborative effort by the project team led by Professor Vanessa Chang, Associate Professor Craig Zimitat and Project Manager Ruchika Goyal, and others involved in Student Services, Student Systems, Curtin Learning and Teaching and the Digital Futures team. Read more about Akari and what’s changing.

Curtin Connect student precinct

Curtin Connect is bringing together services and support functions for students from across the University into a convenient location in buildings 101 and 102. The innovative new development will provide future and current students with a single point of contact for Curtin’s Student Services, Support Services, Future Students, Curtin International and the Graduate Research School.

As you may have already seen, the building refurbishment has commenced in buildings 101 and 102 and is progressing well. The refurbishment is due to be completed in May 2017. To enable this to occur, there will be some temporary relocation of staff and services. Thank you to all staff for your support and patience during this period.  You can read more about Curtin Connect here.

STEM Education Research Group

I am pleased to announce that Curtin’s Science and Mathematics Education Centre (SMEC) has changed its name to the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education Research Group and is now located in the School of Education within the Faculty of Humanities.

The new name and location more accurately depict the group’s purpose, which covers research and education across the STEM areas. The STEM Education Research Group will build on the strong reputation of SMEC, at the same time as enhancing the opportunities for postgraduate study in STEM. Today marks the celebration of the birth of Sikhism founder Guru Nanak Dev, an important occasion in the Sikh calendar. I wish our Sikh Curtin community members a wonderful celebration.
