Curtin 2008 Teaching Awards – Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning

The Citation award category, introduced in 2006, recognises the diverse contributions that individuals and teams make to the quality of student learning at Curtin. Following the recommendations from the Curtin Teaching Awards Committee, I am delighted to announce the winners of the Curtin Citation Awards.

This year there are five Citation Award winners, each receiving a certificate in recognition of their contribution to improving the quality of student learning and a prize of $2000 to enhance teaching and learning. Each winner will also be invited to present at the Teaching and Learning Forum which will be hosted by Curtin in January 2009.

Congratulations to the following winners:

  • Dr Jaya Earnest – Centre for International Health
For effective approaches that enhance postgraduate student learning through critical engagement, transformation and sharing of lived experiences.
  • Dr Margaret Pember – Information and Library Studies
For enhancement of student learning in archives education through workplace integrated learning opportunities with special reference to the Benedictine Community of New Norcia program.
  • Professor Léonie Rennie – Office of Research and Development
For exemplary supervision and empowerment of research students through promoting high standards in research education for students and supervisors.
  • Dr Glennda Scully – Accounting
For the development of a ‘student centred’ culture within the School of Accounting which incorporates motivating, engaging and inspiring students’ interest in accounting and helping them develop independent learning skills.
  • A/Prof Marjan Zadnik – Imaging and Applied Physics
For two decades of enhancing student learning in Physics through innovative research-based curricula, scholarly activities and leadership, and for staff development to improve students’ learning.

I would like to invite all staff and Heads of Schools to attend the Awards presentation ceremony of the 2008 Curtin Citation Awards, and the announcement of the Curtin nominations for the national 2008 Carrick Awards for Australian University Teaching (Citations) to be held on Wednesday 26 March 2.00-3.30pm in the Council Chamber Foyer, Level 3, Building 100.
