Library trials 7am opening

By Curtin Library 12 April 2010 Highlights Comments off

From 19 April Robertson Library will open its doors from 7am on weekdays until the end of semester (25 June).

Trialling the new hours is a response to direct feedback and CASS survey comments that students need time in the library before classes commence. Clients will have:

  • access to all floors;
  • use of computers and other technology;
  • access to self-serve facilities such as borrowing and Reserve.

Library rovers will be on hand to help with any technology-based queries and the normal enquiry and loans desk service will operate from 8am.

As this is a trial we are very interested in your feedback so please leave a comment to let us know what you think of the earlier opening and help us evaluate this trial.

What's new in the library?

By Curtin Library 24 February 2010 News & events Comments off

Robertson Library has had a mini makeover during the summer break. Improvements are still under way, but you will already see a difference on levels 2, 3 and 5.

 On level 2 we have:

  • replaced the glass partitioning with a new half-glazed wall;
  • provided additional casual seating with new bench seats and table tops planned for installation along the wall;
  • plans to add booth-style seating and tables in the group study area to reflect those already in the iZone;
  • removed old carrels and will replace them with new, larger carrels providing power to make it simpler to plug in your laptop or other mobile device;
  • painted and recarpeted some areas.

 On level 3 we have:

  • relocated the computer workstations from level 2, replacing some older carrels;
  • enhanced computer access with the addition of three new workstations and computers to one of the existing ‘pods’;
  • plans to add newer style carrels with individual power points.

 On level 5 we have:

  • added four new group study rooms with plentiful power points for you to plug in mobile devices;
  • plans to install a Smartboard in one of the bookable group study rooms;
  • put in new, larger tables in some of the other group study rooms;
  • completely renovated the toilets near the lifts;
  • installed a new unisex disabled toilet.

 So come into the library soon and check out our makeover progress.
