New US food labelling proposed May 2015

By Alexandra McManus 8 May 2015 News No Comments »

The USA is updating its’ Dietary Guidelines and food labels updated accordingly. These images compare the current requirements for serving sizes with the proposed new formats. The emphasis is on helping the consumers to make informed choices. These examples show the change in graphics proposed for serving sizes which more realistically reflective how much people usually eat in one ‘sitting’.  The proposed changes to the Nutritional facts emphasis calories plus all sugars, both added and naturally occurring. Interesting that sugars and protein do not have % of daily value on existing or proposed food labels. http://www.fda.gov/Food/GuidanceRegulation/GuidanceDocumentsRegulatoryInformation/LabelingNutrition/ucm385663.htm#Summary
