By Ashley Aitken 10 March 2014 Uncategorized No Comments »

As always, Curtin University is staying at the forefront of developments in teaching and learning, and in many cases leading the world with research and innovation in teaching and learning.

This semester, the University has been celebrating its achievements and plans with a three-day “Festival of Learning”and reporting upon its plans to “Transform Learning at Curtin” on its Web site.

The School of Information Systems is heavily involved in innovative teaching and learning at Curtin. Also, some key T&L researchers and PhD students in the School are having their research work highlighted within the “Festival of Learning.”

Check out Curtin’s Web site for more details.

Welcome to School of IS in Semester 2, 2013

The School of IS has “lost” two valuable staff members recently.

Firstly, Associate Professor Helen Armstrong who has had a distinguished career in IS and IT, including prestigious awards and a sabbatical at the West Point Military Academy in the USA, has retired.  We wish her well in her future endeavours.

Secondly, Dr Frank Chan (who last year became a father) has accepted a position at a distinguished business school in Paris. It is a great achievement and we wish him all the best for his time there and in his career is Information Systems.

Of course, we have plenty of other staff and we are recruiting a new Professor and Head of School.  The School’s research output is also on the rise, which is great to see.

Welcome to the School of Information Systems in 2013!

The School of Information Systems is continuing to offer leading Information Systems, Information Technology and Logistics / Supply Chain Management courses.

The School also continues its strong research profile in these and other areas (e.g. teaching and learning), with many visiting academics from around the world.

The THINK student group also continues to work hard to make studying at Curtin more enjoyable for IS, IT, and L/SCM students. Check out the THINK web site as well.

All the best for your studies in 2013.

A New Head of School

By Ashley Aitken 18 July 2011 Uncategorized No Comments »

Towards the end of first semester 2011 the then Head of School of Information Systems, Associate Professor Vanessa Chang took on a year long secondment to be position of Dean of Teaching and Learning in Curtin Business School. Whilst we in the School were very happy for Vanessa to gain such a great promotion we were also sad to see her leave. Vanessa has done a great deal over the last five or so years to lead the School of IS back to a successful and growing position.

Whilst the Curtin Business School searches for a replacement for Vanessa as the Head of School and a new Professor, Dr Peter Dell has taken over the role as Acting Head of School. Peter has worked closely with Vanessa in the past on many projects and knows a lot about how to keep the School running smoothly so it should be “business as usual.” It is anticipated that a new Head of School will be found and take on the position within three to six months (but these things can take longer).

Until then it’s a new captain on the same ship, still steaming forward. Most of you may not have even noticed the change.

We’re off to a great start in 2011!

The School of IS has gotten off to a great start in 2011.  We’re all pretty much settled now in our new location in Building 402, on levels 7, 8, and 9, with the School Office on Level 8.

Our staff continue to build on our research strengths is IS, IT, and L/SCM publishing academic papers in conferences in Australia and around the world and in academic journals.

Our undergraduate courses continue to be very popular, and this year we are doing a comprehensive review of our Masters courses (as is required by Curtin on a regular basis, about every 3-5 years).

The IS Future Technology Learning Space now has the Microsoft Surface machines as well as an XBox 360 with Kinect (who says academia is all work and now play).

Welcome to Semester 2, 2010 and a new location for the School of IS!

Well, during the semester break, whilst perhaps you were holidaying (or working) the School of Information Systems has been on the move!

The School of Information Systems has moved from Building 408 to the newly renovated Building 402 Levels 7, 8, and 9 (with some great views).

That’s the same building where the CBS Computer Labs are, as well as tutorial rooms.  The lift is in the centre of the building through the glass sliding doors.

The School Office is on Level 8 and staff are on all floors.  Seminars and meetings are on Level 9 (although some may still be in Building 408)

We’re still getting used to the new location and some people are still unpacking so please bear with us, but if you have time come on up and enjoy the view.

The School of IS has moved up in the world!
