Use the Catalogue on the go

By Curtin Library 19 July 2012 News & events Comments off

You can now do your research on the go with the new Curtin Library Mobile Catalogue. Use your iPhone or other mobile device to search across all of our books, journals, DVD’s and electronic resources, and to access full text content when available.

To make things even easier we have added QR codes in the Library Catalogue. Simply scan a code on your mobile device and you will be directed to that title in the mobile version of the Catalogue. Then you can easily take the catalogue record and call number with you to help you find the item on the shelves.

You can also scan QR codes from the display of new books shown on TV screens on levels 2 and 3 of the Robertson Library.

A library workshop could help you

By Curtin Library 16 July 2012 News & events Comments off

For the first time we are offering a workshop on EndNote Web, a web-based reference organizer and collaboration tool that enables EndNote users to collect references when away from their desktop and collaborate easily with others.

Once you have created an EndNote Web library you can access it at anytime, anywhere to:

  • Collect references from databases and library catalogues
  • Use groups to organise your references
  • Share your references groups with any EndNote Web user
  • Transfer references between EndNote desktop and EndNote Web
  • Insert references into Word and create a bibliography

It is preferable that you are familiar with using EndNote desktop before attempting to use EndNote Web. To register for an EndNote Web class click here.

We also offer a range of free workshops throughout the year to help you improve your research skills and learn how to use Endnote. Click here to book a workshop.

Along with the workshops, our short interactive tutorials will help you develop research skills and find information for your assignments.

John Curtin play opens 19 July 2012

By Curtin Library 3 July 2012 Library Services JCPML Comments off

The JCPML Anniversary event for this year is the world premiere of a new play about John Curtin.

The Fremantle Candidate will take to the stage on 19 July 2012. Written by 2010 JCPML Visiting Scholar and multi-award winning playwright, Ingle Knight, the play focuses on the time after John Curtin lost his seat of Fremantle in 1931 until he regained it in the federal election of 1934.

During this time John Curtin freelanced as a sports journalist, penned articles for the Australian Labor Party and wrote the WA Government’s submission to the newly formed Commonwealth Grants Commission. Regaining his seat in 1934 paved the way for him to be elected leader of the Labor Party a year later.

Tickets are available from Deckchair Theatre at deckchairtheatre.com.au/bookings

The play’s script will soon be available via the JCPML website and in their education activities for non commercial educational access. Further information about the Visiting Scholars program can be found at john.curtin.edu.au/events/scholars.html.

For more information about The Fremantle Candidate see the Deckchair Theatre website, deckchairtheatre.com.au.

The Fremantle Candidate is now showing at PICA, Perth Cultural Centre, James St Northbridge.

Changes to library printing and copying

By Curtin Library 3 July 2012 News & events Comments off

This week the Robertson Library is progressively upgrading to the University’s new managed printing system.

The biggest change you will notice within the library is that new “multi-function” devices capable of photocopying and printing are being installed, to replace the separate photocopiers and printers we had before. If you want to, you will also be able to print the jobs you have initiated in the library on any device in the University,  for up to 2 hours. So you can submit your print job in the library and collect it at an Abacus lab or in your school after your lecture, coffee, etc.

Credit on your existing account will be transferred to the new system and most other arrangements for selecting and releasing print jobs will remain the same.

Look for instructions on how to use the new “multi-function” devices in the existing library print and photocopying areas.
