Suggestion: Library staff

By Curtin Library 7 June 2018 News & events 3 Comments »

From the suggestion box@Curtin Library…

The library staff is very rude, I’ve never once had a good experience. We were asked to be more quiet once because we accidentally raised our voices for a couple of seconds and a librarian came in, talked to us in a very condescending manner and told us we would have to leave the next time he caught us. I understand it is a library and we were not talking until that moment and we were also in a room. He could have at least asked us to keep our voices down nicely rather than talk to us in the extremely rude manner that he did. I think I speak for many students when I say that some nicer, more pleasant staff would be very much appreciated as the attitude of the staff here is not in anyway competent.

The Library responds…

Thank you for the comments regarding your experience with Library staff. I apologise on behalf of the staff if the service you received was not courteous and helpful. If you would like to discuss your concerns in more detail please let me know at barbara.parnaby@curtin.edu.au.

The library stuff was really rude. I was in level 6 trying to study but I had to meet up with a friend to study as well. I was waiting for her near the elevator to guide her and when we saw each other we greeted, and the librarian told us to leave and was very rude and arrogant, that I left the library immediately. It was more irritating as there was many others making louder noises, and they were not told off, but we were for just saying hi to each other. I understand that it is a library but all we said was greet each other. Very disappointing.

can confirm that there are people who are playing games on level 6 with really loud clicking, and people whispering & laughing very loudly.
there are people with food wrappers whcih are very loud considering no food is allowed on level 6.

Library staff at reception are very rude when asked for simple things such as putting more staples in the print and copy room or the staff working at bookmark cafe.

Thank you for the additional information. We do understand how important the level 6 silent study area is especially as you prepare for exams. It is being heavily patrolled during this lead up to exams. It can also help if you report problems like this as they arise and you may like to email Libraryenquiries@curtin.edu.au as the problems are happening and we will intervene.

We will reinforce our approach to service at the help point and refer your comment about the Bookmark Cafe staff to the Guild who run that service.
