From the suggestion box@Curtin Library…
Hi,
Does the Curtin library provide — or would it consider looking into providing — free language learning courses and resources, such as the web-based Mango Languages or other digital offerings like Pimsleur, which are increasingly being made available through schools, universities, public and private libraries and other organisations to their members.
With Curtin’s internationally diverse student and faculty body, Australia’s multiculturalism, and the ongoing need to create graduates with global reach, additional language acquisition could only be a plus that should be encouraged to students!
The Library responds…
Thank you very much for your suggestion.
The University has English language levels set at a standard that should not require considerable “language acquisition.” Opportunities are available, however, mainly via faculty English language development programs. The Library’s Learning Centre focuses mainly on “academic literacy” – but we have a very useful “Better Grammar” program online that is popular. We also give students links to the CHAtS program and English Challenge – see the “Improve Your Skills” web page at http://students.curtin.edu.au/study-support/skills/
Any further questions or ideas, please let us know.

Hi in response to previous query about free online language learning sources, is there free support for English speaking students to learn foreign language to support multiculturalism integration. Your answer perspective was focused on international students learning English.
Thank you
Hi Paul
Unfortunately, we are not able to offer free support for English speaking students to learn a foreign language and I’m not aware of any other free resources for this purpose.
I’m sorry we’re unable to assist on this occasion.
