Suggestion: Disposal of unwanted items

By Curtin Library 11 October 2018 News & events No Comments »

From the suggestion box@Curtin Library…

Hi Roberston Library,

I understand it has been very difficult to have charities accept your discarded books on the free-books shelf. However, after an engineering friend never picked up some I saved for them, I posted them on Gumtree for free. Within seconds, I got a reply for the lot of them; and minutes later, another reply for the same. May I suggest posting them on Gumtree in the future, rather than sending them to be recycled, if you haven’t already tried that?

The Library responds…

Thank you for your suggestion. We considered a number of options for the disposal of unwanted items from the Library and have found that the current method is the most effective way of making large numbers of items available to people who are able to benefit from them. We have found that in the end only a quite small number of items need to be recycled.
