Suggestion: Computer Use

By Curtin Library 16 May 2017 News & events 2 Comments »

From the suggestion box@Curtin Library…

Can the library helpers start issuing move-on notices to people who aren’t using computers? It’s so annoying coming to level 3 when maybe 80 computers are supposed to be free, but lots of people are just sitting at the desks using a notebook or their laptop.

The Library responds…

Thank you for your feedback. We will ask the Rovers to keep an eye on this but we have noted that students may be using their laptops as well as the Library computers. When we looked into this some students were using special software on their laptops while writing their assignments on library computers while others were listening to music through headphones while using the Library computers.  There were a variety of other reasons.

We will monitor this and where possible suggest students free up the computers. In addition, if you have this experience again can you please let a staff member know and where possible they will investigate.

Yes, to anti-bacterial wipes in the library. Especially with the flu season, it would be great to be able to wipe the computer desk and mouse. Wipe dispenser could be attached to the pillars or wall throughout the library for self cleaning.

Thank you for the suggestion regarding anti-bacterial wipes. We understand that hygiene is important and know that some of our clients who are concerned about this carry their own wipes. With regards to the Library, we would find it difficult to provide wipes throughout the entire space, however, the desks and keyboards in the Library are cleaned regularly. You may report any cleaning issues to our staff and they will assist.
