The new version of the Library’s Databases A-Z listing is now available. The new listing enables you to filter databases by subject and to limit to databases which are available to alumni, to users within the library, or to the general public. Databases with Australian content are clearly indicated and more information about each database is available in a pop-up window.

Here are some examples of the new Databases A-Z pages:

Please note, from Monday 30 January the old Gecko service is no longer be available as the software is outdated. Most of the functionality that was available through Gecko is now available in the new A-Z list or through the Library Catalogue.

You can use the Library Catalogue to search and retrieve databases and other resources including books, DVDs and journals, and to access millions of online journal articles and e-books.

With the loss of Gecko it would be helpful if the following previous features could be incorporated into the A-Z list of dabases (or elsewhere).

    1. A symbol to indicate a full-text database (this should be easy). Also, a mention of full text in the added information file e.g. Science Direct

    2. Displaying all databases for a subject area rather than having to choose from the A-Z list. There are not that many to display for a subject area and it would be useful to see them all at once.

    3. Having a workspace to keep links to one’s most used databases (this feature of Gecko is sorely missed)

Thnak you for comments. We will take them into account when we review the A-Z list. On your third point — having a space to store links to your favourite databases — this can be done by retrieving the database record in the Library Catalogue and adding it to your e-Shelf. We may be able to add a link from the record in the A-Z list back to the Catalogue to make this task easier.
