Nearly 80 attendees came to the forum at Curtin University on Thursday the 8th of August to listen to Professor Corrigan speak from his extensive experience as an advocate of people with a mental illness. Associate Professor Mary Anne Kenny from CHRE was the MC for the evening and after light refreshments in the foyer, she introduced the topic and highlighted the work of the Centre for Human Rights Education.

Professor Tim Dolin, Dean of Humanities Research and Graduate Studies, then introduced Professor Corrigan who spoke about the attitudes and stigma that ‘remains a stubborn problem for those seeking recovery’ from mental illness.

The work that Professor Corrigan is doing in this area, and specifically in the Program ‘Coming Out Proud’ is ‘designed to aid in the facilitation of disclosure of certain aspects of lived experience with the objective of reducing the self-stigma associated with mental illness.’ Find out more about the ‘Coming Out Proud’ program here.

Thank you to the Mental Health Commission of WA for partnering with us in realising this event. If you would like to listen to the audio from the evening forum you can stream the lecture online from here.
