We’ll be running week-long holiday programs in each of the communities we work in – Laverton, Leonora and Wiluna, flying up Monday afternoon and returning Friday evening. Any skills or interests you have will be useful. We’ll be offering activities for local youth in each community ranging from sports, arts and crafts, cooking… the list is endless!

Our team is heading to Laverton for our annual Christmas Wish Trip and this year it’s going to be bigger than ever!! With a busy weekend planned, the highlight of our last trip for 2012 will be Santa’s special visit to the kids in Laverton to deliver gifts all the way from Perth.

Every year staff, students and volunteers have generously donated gifts to Curtin Volunteers! for our Christmas Wish Trip. This year CV! are again hoping to gather enough gifts for all the kids in Laverton and Mt Margaret for a very special ‘Thank You Event’ run by CV! in early December.

Young UN Women Australia is a diverse network of young people committed to promoting gender equality and the advancement of women worldwide.

Throughout the year the Perth Chapter publishes a quarterly Zine, runs fundraising and advocacy events such as art exhibitions, quiz and movie nights and tackles policy and education through initiatives such as Young Women’s Leadership Forums. Sister Kate’s operated as a children’s home for the stolen generation from 1934 to 1953 before recently being established as a collection of aged persons units for former residents and their descendants.

They are holding their Anuual Fete on Saturday 10 November 2012 from 8.00am to 3.00pm and are seeking volunteers to help out at some of the stalls including the sausage sizzle stand.

You will get a free T-shirt and will be fed well for your efforts!!

Cricket Champs is a cricket skills development program, giving kids with disabilities between the ages of 6-16 the opportunity to get involved with a junior cricket club.

Volunteers are essential to the program and the chance to offer boys and girls with varying disabilities the opportunity to get involved in a fun, inspiring and interactive environment. No previous experience is required, only an interest in cricket or in working with kids with disabilities.

Playing day is Wednesday, 5.00-6.30pm, starting on October 31. All sessions are held at Tompkins Park (South East) in Applecross and program will run until December 12 this year before restarting again in the second week of February.

Applications are now open to join CV!’s Remote & Indigenous Programs team for 2013. We are seeking applicants for the roles of Program Coordinator in all three of our Programs; Laverton, Leonora and Wiluna.

The R&I team are the 9-strong enthusiastic crew who run CV!s’ programs in Laverton, Leonora and Wiluna. We have high aims, work hard and have a lot of fun!

All in all a role on the team would involve 5-10 hours of activity per week, including a weekly meeting. End result? Incredible experiences in leadership, remote and Indigenous community development, and volunteering with a student-lead not-for-profit.  It’s great if you already have some experience, but the most important things we’re looking for are open-mindedness, communication skills and enthusiasm.

Want to help out and have fun at the same time? Looking for something to do over the semester break?

The Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPs) program at South Perth Church of Christ is looking for volunteers who love to work with kids. While the mothers are busy listening to guest speakers, building relationships and learning new skills you could be assisting carers in looking after the children. Volunteers will assist the carers in providing a range of activities for the children. Children are aged up to 3 years.

Fit and Able is a program which is carried out at Curtin Stadium. It involves a volunteer buddy assisting a client with special needs to carry out their exercise program.

Fit and Able program provides a great opportunity to gain experience and meet new people and it is perfect for students studying degrees in Health Science! You do not need any skills in the area of fitness or working with people with disabilities to apply.

We are currently looking for volunteers who are free on Mondays and Thursdays, 4pm onward. You will need to be available during the extended summer break.

Want to help someone out over the holidays? Develop new and existing skills and have fun at the same time? FlexAbility might be the program for you!

FlexAbility is a weekly program that involves setting up and coordinating activities for children from The Centre for Cerebral Palsy. The aim of this program is to connect children and teens with disabilities to the wider community through developing their social and physical participation.

This program provides a great opportunity, particularly for Occupational Therapy students, to develop their skills and gain experience. The program will be running over the end-of-year university break.

Beckenham Primary School, home of our Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program, is celebrating 100 years of educating local children.

We are seeking three volunteers to help with the ‘Tea Room’ celebratory event, assisting the children and teachers with preparation of basic food and beverages.

The event is to be held Sunday 28th October 10am to 3pm, with volunteers being required for a maximum of three hours.

From the 2^nd to the 5^th of October, volunteers in Wiluna will be working in light of the Murlpirrmarra Connection Holiday Program. Along with getting involved with the footy clinic and a movie night, volunteers will be spending lots of time at the Recreation Centre making pizza and playing all sorts of games!

From the 5^th to the 8^th of October is the Lenora Races, also a John Curtin Weekend (even better!). Volunteers will be providing entertainment for the kids and helping out wherever needed. On the list is sports, balloon sculpting, face painting, and just lots of time with the kids in general!

Keep an eye out for pictures once these two great trips return!

With the end of semester approaching, Curtin Volunteers! would love to thank you for your amazing contribution with our very first Backwards Party!  This will be a fun-filled event with lots of games, free food, free drinks and all things backwards!
