Carpets for Communities

Carpets for Communities established a sustainable project whereby women and children in Poi Pet, Cambodia, are able to gain sufficient income thus removing the risks of child trafficking and exploitation. This income is derived from mothers making rugs at home. With that income, the children are no longer required to earn money for their families through working or begging; and instead return to school.

The rugs are sold in most of the capital cities in Australia; mostly at markets, with only a few partnerships with ethical retailers. With administrative and distribution costs either donated or kept low, a very large proportion of the sales are returned to the families in the program.

For more information on the project, please refer to the Carpets for Communities website: www.carpetsforcommunities.org

Carpets for Communities are looking for volunteers to help sell rugs at markets. This would involve a committment of around 5 hours a week.
