VOLUNTEER POSITIONS ON YOUTH ARTS FESTIVAL TEAM
WHAT IS ARTILLERY?
ARTillery Youth Arts Festival. It’s quite simple really. We get together with the local arts scene to put on music, visual and performing arts events, and combine this with human rights messages. We aim to get YOU – WA young people – to use ART as your ARTillery to defend human rights both locally and internationally.
ARTillery began in 2008, and is run by young Amnesty International activists to educate and inspire young people about human rights issues, through the arts. Our secondary aims are to promote the local arts scene and increase local arts activism. Last year, almost 600 people attended the month-long festival.
In 2010, the festival will be held from December 1st – 10th, ending on International Human Rights Day. The festival will include five events using different art forms such as music and visual art to communicate several of Amnesty International’s campaigns.
Amnesty International has six positions available on its volunteer coordinating team for the ARTillery Youth Arts Festival 2010:
2 x PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICERS: two innovative and creative marketing/media ’spin-doctor’ extraordinaires to join our public relations team; WEBSITE DESIGNER: a creative and social media savvy web designer to look after the virtual face of ARTillery; BOOTCAMP CO-COORDINATOR: a creative and entertaining person to co-coordinate the all-ages component of ARTillery; HUMAN RESOURCES OFFICER: an exceptional communicator and party-starter for the “People person” position; and FESTIVAL LOGISTICS OFFICER: a person with super-organisational skills and Zen-like calming powers for the “Go to Person” position.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
Applicants must:
have a passion for human rights and general do-goodery; be aged between 18 – 30 years; be able to commit at least 2 – 5 hours per week to ARTillery; be creative (you don’t have to be an artist to be creative!); have at least a general knowledge of Amnesty International’s work (check out www.amnesty.org.au ); and be able to work well in a team.
It would be super awesome if applicants had previous experience in team work, the local arts scene, and the not-for-profit sector. However, a general willingness to learn and work hard is sufficient.
WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU:
The opportunity to express own creativity and ideas for a great cause The opportunity to work alongside other awesome and like-minded young people, gain experience with an internationally respected NGO, which is great life experience and also good for the ol’ resume The chance to contribute to an international movement against human rights abuses, make fantastic networks and connections with NGOs and the local arts community, the option of event management and campaign training with Amnesty International Australia AND FREE BISCUITS (*note this is not guaranteed at every meeting)
