We have captured brief videos that tell the story of each of the eScholars. These case studies provide a practical perspective on implementing such projects and will hopefully encourage you to consider applying for an eScholarship this year.

Viewing the showcase

The eScholar showcase is located on the CeL website. This is a blog-based site that lets you search for case studies and newsletters by keyword or tag. Each case study has been categorised under eScholar, so by clicking on this category you will be able to view all ten video case studies. However, if you are only interested in case studies relevant to eAssessment simply click on that category, note that this may also return case studies other than the eScholar program. You can also view case studies by faculty or find a specific video by searching a lecturer’s name.

We welcome comments under any of the showcase or newsletter posts.

Key findings from the 2010 program

There are several core practices that become evident through viewing the eScholar case studies.

Choose a technology that you are familiar with and which provides a relatively simple solution to the development of your learning activity. Being familiar with the technology prior to implementation will allow you to focus on the learning activity and ensure that students are actively engaged in it.

Scaffold students’ use of the technology. Do not assume students know how to use a tool. Strategic icebreaker activities and formative activities assist in developing the required technology skills.

Role model use of the technology and expected conduct. Students appreciate a demonstration of what is expected of them. Share exemplars and netiquette guidelines as this will aid in setting context and expected conduct.

Sustain student engagement. This is a fundamental to teaching and learning and the University’s student engagement guidelines will help you consider how to progressively increase student engagement in the online environment. Many of the projects focused on creating a community of learners engaged in collaborative learning.
